Editing, editing…

May 11, 2010 in Uncategorized

I’m hard at work, editing the film. It’s coming together well, but it just takes time – lots of time!

I did receive a miniDV tape in the mail a few days ago from Veronique Chevalier and her filmmaking collaborator Jann Castor, containing Val’s interview footage, so I’ll be importing that into my computer and adding it to the film shortly!

It’s nice to see the film taking shape and I hope to be able to share it with the world soon!

Peas n’ luv,

Nik Beat poetry to be in the film

May 2, 2010 in Interviews

We did a video shoot the other day with Nik Beat, poet, musician and radio personality. Nik performed a few of his gothy poems from his CD “Love Amongst the Ruins” for our camera. He’s also been interviewed for the film, and has shared some interesting insights and memories from his many years around the Goth scene. Here are some frame grabs from the video as a little preview:

Goth in Japan – material to be added to the film soon!

April 19, 2010 in Uncategorized

I have recently made contact with a filmmaker in Japan who is interested in contributing some footage of the Japanese Goth scene to our film GOTH:insideOUT! The Goth scene in Japan is wild!

I’m happy to announce this addition to the film and will have more details coming in the future about this. This is one more step towards making GOTH:insideOUT an international look at the Goth scene.

Interview to be added: Noah from Bats Day in the Fun Park

April 2, 2010 in Interviews

Recently, we interviewed Noah Korda from Bats Day in the Fun Park, about the annual Goth/alternative culture gathering at Disneyland in California. Now in it’s 12th year, they are expecting thousands to attend this year’s event! We spoke to Noah about the beginnings of the event, as well as his take on the Goth scene.

New interview to be added: Veronique Chevalier AKA The "Weird Val" of Cabaret!

March 26, 2010 in Interviews, Uncategorized

Veronique Chevalier AKA The “Weird Val” of Cabaret has graciously agreed to be interviewed for the film GOTH:insideOUT!

She is very talented and unique in what she does, with her cabaret performances and also music (both on her own and with projects such as Polka Haunt Us). I’ve never seen or heard anything like it – and I like it!

Her work on “Polka Haunt Us: A Spook-tacular Compilation” was an official selection on the 51st Annual Grammy ballot,  and continues to gain more popularity and airplay every Halloween.  She writes and performs original cabaret songs, and also covers of rock songs as Edith Piaf might have done them. In addition, “Weird Val” writes parodies of well-known songs, in the same spirit of “Weird Al” Yankovic.

From her bio: “Being gonged off the premiere season of America’s Got Talent was irrefutable proof her gifts are wasted on the masses.”

We’ll get her take on what she does, sample some of her live performances, and hear about her observations on Goth and its evolutions.

Her Website is and also check out

I’m very happy to have her aboard!

Latest edit of the film

March 19, 2010 in Uncategorized

Hi there,

I finally sat down with the latest edit of GOTH:insideOUT that Brandon, our editor,  gave me recently. It’s been very hectic for me the last week with me covering Canadian Music Week with a media pass and shooting a lot of video for that (see the blog for more), so it took me a while to get to it. Thanks to my buddy and fellow filmmaker Aldo’s input on the latest edit.

This is the second edit of the film and it was about 90 minutes long. That’s good progress from the initial assembly I did that clocked in at over 2 hours. Still, I’ve got footage to add, so we’ll have to do more trimming. It’s likely we’ll have a couple of different versions of the film (at least). I anticipate a 90 minute cut, a longer cut that runs around 2 hours, and then maybe a 1 hour cut if we need to do so for TV, fingers crossed. Then, I’m thinking of substantial extras on the DVD, as there is so much great footage that I’d like people to see.

The structure for the film is getting clearer and I know where I want to take it. So, it’s a matter of many hours to go in editing, working in some new footage, arranging it all in the proper sections, getting titles made, graphics, posters, DVD packaging, sourcing some needed photos, music and footage. It sounds more daunting than it is. There’s not much left to film, maybe a couple more interivews, and some additional footage that will be easy to get.

It’s coming along well! I’m pleased 🙂

I can’t wait until we can get this film out there into the world!
