Back to editing, well, trying….

March 9, 2015 in Uncategorized

The other day, I went to open the 2 hour rough cut of the film to get back to work and hit some technical issues. Seems that the rebuilt editing PC (that began having motherboard issues last year after 10 years of service) I was hoping would work with my old files just didn’t want to do it. I had replaced the motherboard but something is still not right.

The editing is at a stand-still until I get my editing PC running how it should. I’m going to try reinstalling the software, so fingers crossed. If that doesn’t work, I’ll have to get a another PC (or a Mac I can dual boot). The rough cut was done in Vegas Video, so I’d rather find a way to make that work then have to start over!

So, delayed yet again! But I will keep going and find a way to get my film finished. The GOTH:InsideOut documentary is going to be an even more poignant time-capsule/portrait of the Goth scene that was, as two of the people interviewed for the film are now passed away, Nik and Linda.

That’s extra motivation for me to pick up this project and get it finally finished. But it seems to be moving along at its own speed, so it’ll be done when it’s done.

we’re not (un)dead, yet! (ain’t it dead, yet? Nope! Ah, I dig it!)

Hiya,

It’s been a while, we know…But, good news! Our main editing computer has been brought back to life (it’s alive!)! So, now Dave can get back to editing the damn movie (when he makes the time ~ahem!).

In any case, the film has not been abandoned, and we’ve not forgotten about those who have put time into the film, nor about our viewers and supporters. Rest assured the documentary WILL see the light of day (and not be consumed by it – oh wait, that’s vampires).

Stay tuned, gothlings…

We have not forgotten about finishing the film, and think of it often. Our editing computer with the project files had a motherboard issue and we are getting it replaced. But, it’s taking us some time. It will be working again soon, and we’ll get back to work on the film. To help us out, please consider donating to the production – you’ll get some great rewards! Thank you!

Happy Spring!

H folks,

Spring is in bloom here in Toronto, Canada! It’s nice to see and experience.

The film is still in the works – thanks for all your great comments on the clips on YouTube.

Funding issues have delayed the film getting finished, and then we had our main editing computer go down. We need to pay for computer repairs and some post-production costs. The film will get finished once these costs are covered, as soon as we can.

If you’d like to help the film get finished you can send us a donation in ANY amount!

Donations over $20 get a download of the film.
Donations over $35 get a download of the film, and access to the hours of complete interview footage online.
Donations over $50 get a DVD mailed out to you, a download of the film, and access to the hours of complete interview footage online.
Donations over $100 get all that the $50 level gets, plus your name listed in the credits of the film as a supporter.

Thanks, it will all help!

Happy New Year – 2012

January 19, 2012 in Uncategorized

So, if the world doesn’t end this year, we will continue work on the film! Maybe we’ll get it finished, if we are lucky. Though, I do see this as an ongoing project, where I may add new content when it happens. Anyway, have a good 2012 everyone! It’s sure to be a wild ride!

Why I am making this film and how you can help

February 24, 2011 in Uncategorized

Since the 1980’s I’ve loved many aspects of the Goth scene – the music, the fashions, the art and the people. But, Goths have been very much misunderstood and demonized in popular culture, especially since the Columbine Massacre.

I’m making a film to counter all of the negative stereotypes and show that Goths are good people and mostly happy people who contribute to the world in positive way, have jobs, families, and lives. Goth is not just a fad, as it has passed the torch onto several generations now and has no sign of stopping. Help me get this film made and show the world that Goths are not evil people who shoot up schools, but we are a wonderful, lovely and lovable, peaceful creative bunch (some with fangs, however)!

The project is a feature-length documentary (Gothumenatry) film on the Goth subculture world-wide (if I can get the funding to travel, otherwise it will only contain the footage I have now). Filming has already been done to in Toronto, Montreal and via video contributions from Goths in parts of the USA.

The film features interviews with (these interviews have been shot):

Edward Ka-Spel of the Legendary Pink Dots, Baron Marcus of the Vampire Beach Babes, Nancy Kilpatrick author of The Goth Bible, Lance Goth (the past owner of Sanctuary Vampire Sex Bar, The Catacombs, The Vatikan), The Westborough Baptist Church, Noah Korda from Bats Day in the Fun Park (audio only), Michael Ratt (of The Dark Place Gothic Society, healer and musician), Nik Beat (poet, musician, broadcaster), Stella Sanders the designer of S.I.N.S. Gothic Punk Fashions, Mitch Krol (Beyond the Gates of Hell radio show, the band Masochistic Religion), members of the Goth scene world-wide, the band Freakency, Cad Gold Jr., photographer Hugues LeBlanc, DJ Todd (ex-Sanctuary Vampire Sex Bar DJ and Internet broadcaster with synthetic.org), Jo Kuczynska of Fluffer Designs, Veronique Chevalier AKA The “Weird Val” of Cabaret, author Liz Worth (the book “Treat Me Like Dirt”), and lots more!

I have plans for extended DVDs (and online access) that will feature the full interviews with interesting people that had to be cut for the film, musical performances and neat things like graveyard tours that I have on video! I’ve always wondered why more filmmakers don’t release the uncut interviews from their documentaries. When shooting a doc, there are many hours of footage shot and never used. Let’s see it!

I need funding to get this film made and I need your help. This round of funding is going towards fine cut editing (hiring an editor and post production costs) and some additional travel for interviews/footage that is very important to the film. I’ve cut some promo clips and done a rough assembly edit, but there is a long way to go yet with the editing. I also need some archival footage and photos, so there are costs for those.

I would like to take a trip and film some interviews with Goths in the UK, Japan – where the movement is big, and in Germany where Goth is huge now as well. I need a decent amount of this money before next May, as there is a major Goth festival in Germany (Wave-Gotik-Treffen) that would be crucial footage and interviews to have in the film. Then, there is the M’era Luna festival in August that I would like to cover as well. I think I will meet many Goths from all over Europe at these festivals, so travel to these festivals will be great for the film! Then, there is Bats Day in California in May as well. This may have to wait for a part 2 – we shall see.

If I don’t get the additional funding, then I won’t be able to make the film on the scale of Goth world-wide and that would be a shame, as there are so many amazing things going on with the Goth scene outside of North America.

If you care about the Goth scene and what the world thinks of Goths, then help me get this film made and show the world the REAL story of who Goths are and what they are really about.

Goth is not easy to define, but it’s clear that they are not evil people who shoot up schools…now we just have to get the world at large to see this!

Donations over $35 get a download of the film, and access to the hours of complete interview footage online.

Summer Time

July 17, 2010 in Uncategorized

I hope you are enjoying the summer in the Northern Hemisphere, like we are here. Since it’s summer, things get busy and it’s a bit slow on the video editing front.

But, we are still working on the film. Just today I was tracking down some more music to use in the film and contacting potential contributors. So, things are still moving along.

In other developments, one of my videos was accepted into YouTube’s Revenue Sharing Program! It’s my short documentary on the Hamilton Pagan Pride Day 2006. The direct link to it on YouTube where you can watch and leave comments is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m7MmDYb7Q8

Earthquake in Toronto today!

June 23, 2010 in Uncategorized

I felt that earthquake a few minutes ago! I was working in the basement and felt my chair shaking. There was no noise. Having been in an earthquake before, I knew what it felt like. My immediate thought was -“Earthquake?!” Wild to experience that here in the west end of Toronto. I felt no aftershock. Interesting to see Twitter aflame with the news right away!

My first earthquake was in Vancouver a few years back. I was several floors up and I felt the floor swaying and heard some shaking.

All is well, though, and work on the film will proceed as planned 😉
